Info for Beginners
New starters can join at any time, we run a beginner’s class at every salsa night, this is normally followed by a beginners plus class, and most beginners take both classes to learn rapidly.
There is no need to book or bring a dance partner, lots of people come to salsa classes on their own.
There is no need to buy any special footwear or clothing, just wear sensible lightweight shoes, and avoid wearing stiletto heels or heavy work boots.
The speed of learning simple depends mainly on how often you practice by dancing after the classes and how many classes you attend.
People that take their time learning the basics, instead of rushing ahead to learn more fancy moves, tend to become better dancers, so do not rush to get to the advanced classes.
We recommend social dancing after the classes as this is the best way to learn quickly, the experienced dancers are happy to dance with beginners and improves. Everyone was a beginner at some point!
Do not be afraid to ask for a dance, rather than waiting to be asked, in salsa people just walk over and ask and ladies ask guys as often as the guys ask the ladies.
